S. KOREA: Discount Stores Help Boost Lotte Shopping Profit

Lotte Shopping, South Korea’s biggest retailer, has seen its second-quarter profit surge after a strong performance by its discount store chain.

For the three months ending June, operating profit rose by 33% to 296.7bn won ($250m), while revenue rose by 15% to 3.32trn won. Net profit was up a much-smaller 1.3% to 202.7bn won, as currency-related losses offset the increase in operating profit.
