UK: Blackstone Reportedly Teaming Up With Prestige Brands To Bid For

GSK Unit

Investment group Blackstone has teamed up with US OTC pharmaceutical

company Prestige Brands in a bid for a cluster of OTC brands being

sold by GlaxoSmithKline, according to a report by Dow Jones Newswires.

Other bidders for the OTC consumer unit include buyout firm Bain

Capital and a couple of trade buyers.

UK: Budgens To Price Match Tesco

Musgrave has pledged that its Budgens stores will price match Tesco

on 800 products. According to the report by The Grocer, the programme

is the first move by a symbol group to match Tesco's prices since

Select & Save began advertising Tesco-beating promotions in 2006 but

is by far the most comprehensive to date, and is expected to make

Budgens cheaper than Tesco Express outlets.

division, has announced he will step down from his role at the end of

GERMANY: Metro CEO Receives Support Of Haniel Family

Eckhard Cordes, the embattled CEO of Metro Group, has received a

major boost after the family behind major shareholder Franz Haniel

said they continue to support him.  The Haniel family also said it

has "decided to support a contract extension for Cordes", after his

current contract expires in October 2012.

US: ConAgra Withdraws Bid After Latest Ralcorp Rejection

ConAgra Foods has withdrawn its offer to acquire cereal maker Ralcorp,

after the latter yet again rejected its $94-a- share all cash offer

 (valuing it at $5.2bn).  ConAgra said it was "disappointed" in

Ralcorp's response, and insisted it will not negotiate on the price,

and will now instead pursue other "growth opportunities".

US: Peltz Says Still Interested In Family Dollar; Chain Names New

Head Of Food

Activist investor Nelson Peltz has said he is still interested in the

Family Dollar chain, seven months after launching a takeover offer

that was quickly rejected. In an interview with CNBC, Peltz noted

that his Trian hedge fund was "in continuing and very positive

conversations with management and the board"
