UK: Blackstone Reportedly
Teaming Up With Prestige Brands To Bid For
GSK Unit
Investment group Blackstone
has teamed up with US OTC pharmaceutical
company Prestige Brands in a
bid for a cluster of OTC brands being
sold by GlaxoSmithKline,
according to a report by Dow Jones Newswires.
Other bidders for the OTC
consumer unit include buyout firm Bain
Capital and a couple of
trade buyers.

UK: Budgens To Price Match
Tesco
Musgrave has pledged that
its Budgens stores will price match Tesco
on 800 products. According
to the report by The Grocer, the programme
is the first move by a
symbol group to match Tesco's prices since
Select & Save began
advertising Tesco-beating promotions in 2006 but
is by far the most
comprehensive to date, and is expected to make
Budgens cheaper than Tesco

US: ConAgra Withdraws Bid
After Latest Ralcorp Rejection
ConAgra Foods has withdrawn
its offer to acquire cereal maker Ralcorp,
after the latter yet again
rejected its $94-a- share all cash offer
(valuing it at $5.2bn).
ConAgra said it was "disappointed" in
Ralcorp's response, and
insisted it will not negotiate on the price,
and will now instead pursue
other "growth opportunities".
