Carlsberg has confirmed that it has held talks with rival brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev about joining forces for their operations in India, due to the small size of both groups in the country. Carlsberg noted. We have had an initial contact with InBev, at which we talked about possibilities. There are no concrete plans. We just had a chat over a beer."
A spokesman for the group added that possible cooperation between the two groups could involve production, distribution or other activities in India.
Carlsberg has four breweries and 171 employees in India, which was the only Asian market not to add to group profits in 2009. Nearly 50% of the local beer market is controlled by United Breweries, with SABMiller taking around a 30% share.
