SABMiller has said it will be boosting its production of beer in South Africa to keep up with the anticipated increase in demand during the World Cup. South African Breweries, the company’s local unit, said it expects sales during the tournament to go up by about 5%.
Norman Adami, MD of South African Breweries, said the increased demand equates to around 30 million more bottles, but said the company will ensure that there is no shortage. Adami also noted the company would benefit from the timing of the tournament, as the winter season in southern hemisphere is normally its slowest sales period.
