UK: The Low Sodium Sea Salt Company Serves Up New ‘Solo-Lite’

The Low Sodium Sea Salt Company has introduced a new alternative to salt, called ‘SOLO-LITE’, aimed at helping British consumers reduce their salt intake.

SOLO-LITE is available in 400g bags (RSP of 99p), and is based on natural sea salt, but contains 30% less sodium than regular salt. It contains at least 30 micrograms of iodine per gram, equivalent to 20% of the recommended daily allowance for an adult, and also contains magnesium, potassium and calcium.

The company notes that SOLO-LITE can be used for cooking, baking or discretionary seasoning of food – just as ordinary salt is used – without any significant difference in taste, aroma or texture. It adds that it is ideal for replacing salt in bread and baked goods; cured meats and fish; cheese, butter and other dairy products; poultry and other processed foods; snacks; and cereals.

SOLO-LITE is now being stocked in independent health food shops nationwide and should soon be seen on the supermarket shelves, with single serving sachets also available for the catering market.
