Anheuser-Busch InBev has agreed to sell SABMiller’s premium Peroni and Grolsch beer brands to Japan’s Asahi Group, in a deal worth $2.9bn. The deal also includes British craft beer Meantime and related businesses in Italy, the Netherlands, the UK and other markets.
Asahi had made a cash offer for the brands in February, as part of its aim to expand its international presence. The deal will be the group’s biggest-ever international acquisition.
The sale is one of many by AB InBev and SABMiller, as they look to gain regulatory approval for their merger. The Asahi deal, like the others, is conditional on the $108bn merger going through.
