AUSTRALIA: Amazon Confirms Market Entry

Amazon has confirmed plans to set up a retail presence in Australia, saying it will invest “millions of dollars in additional investment”.

Amazon said it is actively looking for a site for its first fulfillment centre, with floor space of up to 93,000 square metres.  It said not decided on a location yet, nor did it release a time-frame.

The online giant has had a presence in the market since 2012, when it set up Amazon Web Services, but said: “The next step is to bring a retail offering to Australia, and we are making those plans now.”  The company added that it will offer a platform of “low prices, vast selection, and fast delivery”, and will also introduce its Prime Now service.
