Woolworths Holdings has announced plans to bring its David Jones and Country Road subsidiaries under one umbrella unit, to be called WHL Australasia.
The South African group said the move was a logical extension of its moving the head offices of both banners to a campus in Richmond, Melbourne. It said the move will not result in job cuts, and instead expects the number of employees at the new HQ to grow to around 1,500 (up from 1,300).
John Dixon, the CEO of David Jones, will become CEO of the new unit from September 2017. Sacha Laing, COO of Country Road, will be leaving the business with immediate effect. The group did not address the future of Scott Fyfe, CEO of Country Road.
Ian Moir, CEO of Woolworths Holdings, noted: “The creation of a single regional structure is the logical next step for our business. It enables the benefits and synergies of the Australian acquisitions to be fully realised and allows the creation of a single team and culture focused on our Australian customers and driving improved shareholder returns for the WHL Group.”
