CHINA: Wipro Announces Second-Biggest Acquisition, Buys Local FMCG Firm

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has announced the acquisition of local FMCG manufacturer Zhongshan Ma Er Daily Products, for an undisclosed price. The deal marks India-based Wipro Consumer Care’s (WCC) second-largest acquisition ever.

Zhongshan Ma is a family-run business based in South China’s Guangdong province, and generates 55% of its sales through shower products and 45% via liquid detergents. It has a strong footprint in China and Hong Kong, and owns brands such as Enear, Zici, Vcnic, Pahnli, and Sunew. It currently has two plants and employs around 1,000 staff.

The deal, conducted by Wipro Singapore, is expected to be completed by mid-October. Following this, China will become WCC’s third-largest market (after India and Malaysia), with overall revenues of around 1bn yuan ($150m).  WCC also said the deal makes it the leader in South China’s personal care market.
