SPAR is growing its operation in Georgia by entering into sub-licencing.
The first venture in the region of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti in western Georgia has seen the launch of the new store in Zugdidi being operated by an independent retailer under licence from SPAR.
Aimed at the local community, the new 197 sq. m. SPAR convenience store has an extensive food-to-go offer along with fruit and veg, meat, fish and dairy departments.
The group said a lot of support was received from SPAR International and SPAR Russia in terms of store layout planning, department designs and instore communications when developing the brand for Georgia and all of these principles have been applied to the sub-licenced store.
SPAR International entered Georgia in 2014 in partnership with Foodmart, an existing food retailer. It now operates 20 stores in the market.
