Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) has announced plans to split up its foods & drinks business into two divisions, to match the global category structure of parent group Unilever.
The move will create a Foods division, to be headed by Geetu Varma, and a Refreshments division, to be headed by Sudhir Sitapati. Both Varma and Sitapati will hold the designation of Executive Director, and will be part of HUL’s management committee. Varma is currently ED for foods & refreshment, while Sitapati is currently Regional Category VP for Refreshments – South Asia & Africa.
HUL said the move is expected to help focus the operations of both units, and leverage growth opportunities.
HUL’s beverage business – which owns brands such as Lipton, Taj Mahal, Red Label, and Bru – accounts for around 11.6% of the group’s total revenue. The foods business – which owns brands such as Knorr, Kissan, and Kwality Walls – accounts for 6.6% of revenue.
