Unilever is reportedly in talks to acquire CPG firm Honest Co., co-founded by Hollywood actress Jessica Alba.
Honest, launched in 2011, sells disposable baby diapers, household cleaners, personal-care and beauty products. The products are listed at chains such as Whole Foods and Target, and can also be bought directly from its website through a monthly subscription service. It generates estimated annual revenues of around $300m.
According to media reports, Unilever is in early talks for a deal valued at around $1bn, considerably below the $1.7bn valuation Honest received as a part of fundraising round last year. A deal would give Unilever a strong presence in the ‘natural’ cleaning products market, as well as a presence in the US diaper market.
The reports noted that a deal was not guaranteed, and that Honest may still look to go down the IPO route.
