Walmart has said its increased investment on technology will help boost online sales, even as touted its recent initiatives in the field.
Speaking at the group’s AGM, CEO Doug McMillon noted: “We get to reimagine retail again, and that’s what we are going to do.” He added: “This is our ambition globally – we want to be the first place busy families go to save money and time, especially on their everyday needs. We’re connecting all the parts of Walmart into one seamless shopping experience with great stores, easy pickup, fast delivery, and apps and websites that are simple to use.”
McMillon spoke about the group’s click & collect offer, its new 2-day shipping programme, and its Walmart Pay services, as well as recently-announced pilots with the likes of Uber and Lyft.
The comments come even as its online sales have slowed down sharply in recent quarters, although they still remain better than those of its rivals.
