The Weis Markets chain has said it plans to convert 38 of the Food Lion supermarkets it has acquired to its own banner. It expects to complete the conversion of the stores – located in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware – by the end of October.
Weis said the conversions are expected to take less than a week for each outlet, adding that it will hire more than 2,000 current employees of the Food Lion stores. It added: “Once the conversions are completed over the next two months, we will have nearly doubled our Maryland store count and expanded into Virginia and Delaware”.
Once the conversions are complete, Weis will have 204 stores operational in seven US states – Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and West Virginia.
