The Takashimaya department store banner has expanded its store network to Vietnam, with the opening of an outlet in Ho Chi Minh City. This is the third country outside Japan that the chain has entered, following previous store openings in Singapore and China.
The flagship store covers an area of 15,000 sq. m., and stocks Japanese, European and US brands across the apparel, cosmetics, and home furnishings category. It also has a full-fledged food section, which stocks perishables and specialities such as Japanese sweets.
The move is part of a continued trend by Japanese retailers to expand across Asia, as they look to offset stagnating sales in their home market. Takashimaya plans to further expand internationally in 2017, when it is set to open its first store in Thailand.
