Aldi Plates Up Wagyu Steaks For Father’s Day

Aldi UK is offering a selection of Wagyu beef, the most expensive beef in the world, at discount prices in time for Father’s Day.

Wagyu beef typically costs around £40 per 100g at upmarket restaurants.  Aldi is stocking 50,000 steaks, with a limit of two steaks per purchase.

The limited-time offer goes live from today (16 June) until stocks last, with Specially Selected Wagyu Rib Eye and Specially Selected Sirloin Steaks being sold for £7.29 (227g).

The Wagyu Steaks come from cattle that are both bred and 100% grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures to give the meat a distinctive rich flavour and texture. It also gives it a good coverage of marbling, which allows the steak to become tender and succulent.

Over the last year, Aldi has sold 1.5 million Specially Selected Wagyu Beef Burgers (awarded Silver at The Grocer Own Label Awards 2016).

NAM Implications:
  • Now watch em take out 20%+ of the Wagyu steak mkt
  • Quite apart from the impulse moves of up market ‘visitors’…
