Meatsnacks Group, the largest producer of jerky and biltong in Europe, is set to add Wild West Deli Salmon Jerky to its product portfolio after acquiring the premises of the former Spey Valley Smokehouse in Grantown on Spey.
The addition of the new factory will see the Wild West brand expand its footprint in the Scottish Highlands alongside its existing flagship beef and pork jerky facility in the nearby town of Forres.
Situated on the banks of the River Spey, which is widely celebrated for its salmon stocks, the group said the newly acquired factory will now undergo significant investment to scale up its on site production capabilities. The refurbishment will facilitate end-to-end production of the own-recipe salmon jerky with smoking, processing and retail packing all taking place on site.
The salmon jerky will be marketed under the recently launched Wild West Deli brand, with two beef jerky flavours Thai Spice and Chilli & Lime set to line supermarket shelves from July 2016.
James Newitt, Managing Director of Meatsnacks Group, commented: “We’re really excited to be adding salmon jerky to our portfolio and we think it’s the perfect addition to our Wild West Deli range. We have been looking to produce the product since 2012 when we perfected the recipe and what better place than Grantown on Spey, the home of salmon fishing in the Scottish Highlands. The acquisition offers us a great opportunity to continue to diversify our offering and tap into a wider market.”
The Wild West Deli Salmon Jerky is set to launch in August.
