Amazon is set to continue is unrelenting expansion in the UK with a new fulfilment centre in Daventry, Northamptonshire, that will open in 2017.
The online giant said that it was increasing the size of its UK fulfilment centre network to meet increasing customer demand, expand its product selection of more than 150 million items and support the 40% growth last year in the number of independent small businesses selling on Amazon Marketplace using Fulfilment by Amazon warehousing and delivery.
The new site will create more than 300 permanent jobs and will be Amazon’s third fulfilment centre in the Midlands area.
Amazon already has twelve fulfilment centres in the UK, including one in Coalville, two in Doncaster and one each in Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.
The company also announced earlier this summer that it will open new fulfilment centres in Doncaster and Tilbury next year, creating over 2,000 jobs, along with a new London office.
- Where at: Note ‘unrelenting expansion in the UK’ as a pointer for your brands. Consider ‘…expand its product selection of more than 150 million items and support the 40% growth last year’ vs. your brands’ current performance…
- Where headed: Nothing in the market suggests any let-up in this pace…
- Effect on you: Optimising anything less than your full potential is no longer an option.
- Action: Time to take a really fundamental review of all your routes to consumer, on & off-line and redefine your business in terms of Amazon’s role and find a way forward…
