Palmer & Harvey has announced the appointment of Tony Reed as its new CEO, effective immediately.
Reed, the former head of Tesco’s One Stop convenience store banner, takes over from Chris Etherington, who has become Executive Deputy Chairman of the wholesaler. Reed had been with Tesco for 38 years and in addition to his role as CEO at One Stop, he was last year given the responsibility to lead the group’s Express and Tesco Metro formats.
Additionally, P&H said that Richard Grainger has been appointed as non-executive Chairman, following three years as a non-executive director, while Alistair Darby has been appointed non-executive director.
Etherington commented: “We are delighted to welcome Tony as our Chief Executive. His deep experience of the retail sector will be extremely valuable to Palmer & Harvey, as will his track record of driving growth, operational efficiency and his passion for developing people.
“Tony is ideally placed to drive our long-term strategy, further strengthen our customer proposition and embed our reputation for first class service.”
He added: “The appointment of Alistair further strengthens our board, adding significant operational experience as we focus on delivering our strategy to the benefit of all our stakeholders.”
