The growing strength of Aldi and Lidl’s own label offering was highlighted last week after the two discounters picked up the most gold medals at The Grocer’s 2016 Own Label Food & Drink Awards.
Aldi won 19 of the 68 gold medals available at the event in London on Friday, along with 21 silvers for a host of food and drink products, many of which were from its ‘Specially Selected’ range.
Amongst Aldi’s gold-winning products are Specially Selected Gourmet Crackers with Sea Salt, Specially Selected West Country Vintage Reserve Crunchy Cheddar, Specially Selected British Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil, Harvest Morn Maple and Pecan Crisp Cereal, Specially Selected Raspberry Conserve and Mamia Junior Raspberry Mini Rice Cakes.
Lidl picked up 15 golds with Tesco and Asda trailing behind on 12 and 10 golds respectively.
