Aldi stepped up its gluten-free offering last week selling a range of 19 products during Coeliac Awareness Week (9 -15 May).
The products from leading brands such as Genius and Mrs Crimbles, included everything from bakery items and confectionary to cooking essentials such as pasta and sauces. The discounter claimed its range offered customers an average saving of 40% on a range of products compared to its supermarket rivals with a typical gluten-free basket of goods 20% cheaper when compared to Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Ocado.
For example, a loaf of Genius Seeded Bread purchased at Aldi during Coeliac Awareness Week was £1.11 cheaper than at Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Tesco, whilst Genius Gluten Free Pancakes and Crumpets were 51p cheaper when compared to Asda.
Tony Baines, Joint Managing Director of Aldi Corporate Buying, said last week: “At Aldi, we are proud to offer our customers an affordable gluten-free basket and are pleased to be able to support them with a wide range of products to meet their dietary and lifestyle needs.
“We are confident that our range of Coeliac Awareness Week Specialbuys will offer shoppers a generous range of products from leading brands, including Genius and Mrs Crimbles, at a fraction of the price of other retailers.”
