Steve Barnes, Commercial and Membership Director at the Food & Drink Federation (FDF), has been appointed the new Director General of GroceryAid, starting in September this year.
He replaces Gillian Barker who has been Director General for the last 14 years and who will be retiring at the end of November.
Barnes has spent his entire career in the grocery industry, starting in location planning, evaluating sites for Safeway, Presto and Lo-Cost stores. He then spent 17 years at IGD (12 of those as Business Director) and the last four years as Commercial and Membership Director at the industry’s largest trade association, the Food and Drink Federation.
He said: “While I’m disappointed to be leaving FDF, this is a hugely exciting role to take on in the grocery arena. I am privileged and humbled to inherit a fantastic team in a supportive industry to serve the beneficiaries of GroceryAid. The assistance given from the industry to those in need is inspiring and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to drive even greater awareness of the Charity.”
