Sainsbury’s has announced the appointment of Simon Roberts as its new Retail & Operations Director.
Most recently, Roberts was Executive Vice President of Walgreens Boots Alliance and President of Boots in the UK & Ireland but he left the business in July to “pursue new opportunities”. Prior to that, he was Managing Director of Boots UK, having joined the company as Regional Director in 2003 from Marks & Spencer.
Roberts, who will join Sainsbury’s by July next year, will fill the role once held by Roger Burnley who left in October 2015 to join Asda. Sainsbury’s director of non-food operations Jon Hartland has been carrying out the retail and operations role on an acting basis.
Mike Coupe, Chief Executive of Sainsbury’s, commented: “Simon is a very strong leader who is passionate about customers and colleagues. He has extensive stores experience, is customer-centric in everything he does and I am confident he will make a fantastic contribution to Sainsbury’s and the Operating Board.”
Roberts added: “I am thrilled to be joining Sainsbury’s, a brand I have admired and respected for many years, and particularly at such an exciting time for the business following its acquisition of Home Retail Group.”
