Waitrose is enhancing its offering with the introduction of the first in-store GAIL’s takeaway bakery at its supermarket in Canary Wharf.
The bakery is being built in GAIL’s style and will be 280 sq. ft. in size. Customers will be able to shop a range of breads, baked goods and coffee, all freshly prepared on-site.
In addition to takeaway options, customers will be able to order through GAIL’s click & collect service and have products delivered to their homes or offices.
The in-store bakery, which is due to open on 6 June, builds on the supermarket’s existing partnership with GAIL’s, which now has 64 bakery areas selling its products in 64 Waitrose stores.
Waitrose noted that the development builds on its wider strategy to invest in its stores through upgrades, refurbishments and new openings.
Nathan Ansell, the chain’s Customer Director, said: “Building on our successful partnership with the launch of a new and innovative GAIL’s bakery is hugely exciting. Synonymous with quality, expertise, and taste, GAIL’s very much reflects our own core values and we know how much our food loving customers enjoy their products.”
Marta Pogroszweska, GAIL’s managing director, added: “We are delighted to be opening one of our neighbourhood bakeries within the Canary Wharf Waitrose. We look forward to further strengthening our partnership with Waitrose and welcoming the community to our latest craft bakery.”
NAM Implications:
- This addition of GAIL’s bakery to a flagship outlet…
- …has to mean a potential roll-out.
- Suppliers in appropriate categories might benefit from this inevitability in their Waitrose strategies.
