Nisa Retail has revealed that its fresh produce range has experienced strong results in recent months with sales up 21.9% and it picking a coveted industry award for its offering.
The group said the sales of iceberg lettuce are up 400% , red grapes have seen a 330%, whilst cucumber sales jumped 240%
The strength of Nisa’s fresh produce offering was backed up after it recently gained the title of fresh produce retailer of the year at the 2016 Retail Industry Awards.
Fresh produce has been a key focus in the development of Nisa’s Heritage own label range, which recently added a further 11 winners awards and seven highly commended rankings at the Wholesale Q Awards. Nisa’s Heritage range is also enjoying good growth with total sales for own label up 8.8% year on year in value terms.
Commenting on the increasing popularity of fresh produce, Stewart Smith, trading director at Nisa Retail Limited, said: “Shoppers are increasingly using convenience stores for fresh produce so demand for high quality fresh fruit and vegetables has continued to soar.”
He added: “Our customers trust Nisa’s Heritage own label range for fresh and healthy produce, and we have responded to this trust by continuing to extend our range of salad, fresh fruit and vegetables together with items such as healthier option ready meals.”
The strong performance for its own label and fresh range come after Nisa recently delivered a positive trading update for the half year to 2 October. The group said it had continued trade well with sales (excluding rebates) up 1.1% to £666m. Meanwhile, the group’s adjusted earnings for the six month period were up from £3.3m to £4.2m.
