Successful low-calorie ice cream brand Halo Top is entering the traditional ice cream category for the first time with a product made from real cream and sugar.
The ‘Platinum Series’ range will debut with three tub flavours: Space Candy, Monster Cookie and Triple Chocolate Cake. It will also include three handheld bar flavours: Vanilla Crunch, Salted Caramel Swirl and Cookies & Cream.
The company stated that the new brand contains “all of the decadence, indulgence, and sweet chunks and swirls of traditional ice cream, but just so happens to have significantly less calories.” The tubs come in at 680-690 calories per 473ml, whilst the 50g bars contain 160-180 calories.
Despite its US origins, Halo Top is launching the new Platinum range in the UK market first. The company said the decision was due to it regarding the UK as the most important market for the brand globally with it becoming a centre of innovation.
Doug Bouton, CEO of Halo Top International, commented: “I grew up on traditional ice cream like Ben & Jerry’s and Haagen-Dazs, but there hasn’t been significant innovation in that space in decades.
“In the past, if you wanted to indulge with regular ice cream, you had to consume astronomically high amounts of calories and sugar. But we wondered…what if that wasn’t the case?”
Halo Top was acquired by US ice cream giant Wells Enterprises for an undisclosed sum last month.
