Symington’s, the owner of food brands such as Mug Shot, Chicken Tonight, and Ragu, has appointed David Cox as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will join the business this coming Monday from Fox’s Biscuits where he been Managing Director for just over 18 months.

Prior to that, he spent over four years at General Mills, latterly as European Managing Director. Cox also worked for Tesco as a Category Director for four years having started his career at Unilever where for 10 years he held various business development and account management roles.
Tim Whiting, Chairman of Symington’s, said: “David is highly respected in the food industry and brings significant retail experience. We are delighted to have attracted him to Symington’s and look forward to working with him as we take forward our ambitious plans for the business.”
Commenting on his appointment, Cox said: “Symington’s is a fantastic business with huge potential and with great brands in growth markets. I look forward to joining the team at Symington’s and to the challenge of working across a number of different categories.”
Cox replaces John Power who left Symington’s in September.
Symington’s financial accounts for the year ended 26 August 2018 show its EBITDA rose 12.8% to £10.2m with investment in its fast-growing Mug Shot and Naked brands helping drive sales up 4.7% to £120.3m.
The group recently revealed that it had secured a deal to supply its Naked Noodle brand to US retail giant Walmart.
