Sainsbury’s Celebrates 150th Anniversary In Christmas Campaign

Sainsbury’s is the latest supermarket to launch its Christmas campaign, with an ad celebrating the opening of its first store 150 years ago.

The TV feature (see below), which officially launches during ITV’s Emmerdale tonight, tells a Christmas story of an orphan, Nick, who is wrongly accused of stealing a clementine from the first Sainsbury’s store that opened in 1869. After suffering further trials and tribulations, the ad concludes by suggesting the child will one day be Father Christmas.

The campaign carries the tagline ‘Helping make Christmas since 1869’ with the retailer also planning radio, print, digital and social media activity in the run up to 25 December, which will talk about its food and promotions.
