One Stop Opens 200th Franchise Store

Tesco’s One Stop convenience subsidiary has seen the opening of its 200th franchised store nearly five years after the model was officially launched.

The store is located in Witham, Essex, on a new housing development of 200 homes. As well as the usual grocery offering, the outlet features an in-store pharmacy.

Head of franchise John Miller said: “This is a real milestone for us at One Stop as we welcome our 200th franchise store to our portfolio of over 950 neighbourhood stores.

“Over the years, we have worked hard to build an outstanding franchise model that allows franchisees to build strong, profitable businesses, with many going on to open multiple sites.”

The One Stop business has delivered strong performance in recent years, supported by growth in the convenience market and an improved own label offering.

NAM Implications:
  • Slowly (for Tesco) but surely, getting the formula right.
  • NAMs might now anticipate an accelerated roll-out?
