Morrisons Unveils First Non-Food Store

Morrisons has opened its first stand-alone non-food store that sells its Nutmeg clothing and Home ranges.

The 5,400 sq. ft. outlet is located in Bolsover, Derbyshire, next to one of its supermarkets. The aim of the new concept is to offer a wider Nutmeg range than what is normally available in Morrisons supermarkets, with items spanning womenswear, childrenswear, babywear, school uniforms and men’s essentials.

The store also stocks the group’s homewares range with everything from alfresco dining kits to the latest trend-led cushions, bedding and candles.

Rachel Brierley, Store Manager at Morrisons Nutmeg and Home Bolsover, said: “We’re excited to open our doors today and show customers the great quality fashion-led clothing and home ranges we have to offer.”

When Morrisons first unveiled plans for the new concept back in May, a spokesperson said it was due to the success of its non-food offering which has been expanded within its supermarkets over the last couple of years. The retailer has yet say whether it plans to roll out the stand-alone format to other sites.

Morrisons also recently launched a website selling its Nutmeg clothing brand to make it more easily available to customers during the coronavirus pandemic.

NAM Implications:
  • Suppliers of clothing and homewares could benefit more from being in at the start…
  • …rather than trying to play catchup later.
  • Especially given the anticipated casualty rate in post-lockdown traditional clothing and homewares retail…
