Sainsbury’s is awarding its staff with a third successive bonus for their efforts during the pandemic.
The payment will be made to staff working in its stores, as well as logistics and customer service teams in May. It will be based on 3% of an employee’s annual pay, so a full-time worker could receive over £500.
From next month, the hourly rate of pay for Sainsbury’s and Argos store workers will also increase to £9.50 – up from £9.30 for a Sainsbury’s employee and £9.00 for an Argos worker.
Sainsbury’s highlighted that the latest pay rise means its staff have seen their salaries increase 24% over the last five years.
Last month, Sainsbury’s upgraded its annual profit forecast after revealing strong trading figures for the festive period due to increased consumption of food and drink at home during the pandemic.
Clodagh Moriarty, Retail and Digital Director at Sainsbury’s, said: “In the last 12 months our frontline colleagues have shown outstanding commitment to our customers.
“In recognition of everything they have achieved, we are giving them a pay rise, plus an additional one-off payment.”
Sainsbury’s announced yesterday that it was retiring its ‘Live Well for Less’ brand motto to reflect its new focus of helping shoppers improve their diets and reduce their impact on the environment.
