McDonald’s Latest To Be Hit By Supply Shortages

McDonald’s has announced that it has been forced to remove bottled drinks and milkshakes from the menu of its UK outlets, becoming the latest major business to be hurt by supply chain shortages.

The disruption is the latest to roil the UK industry, all of which have been caused by the lack of sufficient HGV drivers. Last week, Nando’s was forced to shut down around 50 of its outlets, while KFC was unable to restock some items earlier this month.

McDonald’s, which operates around 1,250 restaurants in the UK, said that the items would be temporarily unavailable at all the outlets.

In a statement, it noted: “Like most retailers, we are currently experiencing some supply chain issues, impacting the availability of a small number of products … We are working hard to return these items to the menu as soon as possible.”

NAM Implications:
  • Solution: 100,000 HGV drivers quicker than can be trained.
  • Therefore, some relaxing of regulations needed.
  • Or else prepare for a lean Christmas…
