Asda Partners With Just Eat For Grocery Deliveries

Asda is continuing its push into the rapid grocery delivery channel through a new partnership with takeaway food delivery firm Just Eat.

From January 2022, consumers in five initial locations will be able to purchase products from Asda via the Just Eat platform, which already works with over 60,000 restaurants to make deliveries across 95% of the UK.

The location of the five Asda stores involved in the trial will be confirmed early in the New Year, with the two firm’s hoping to grow the partnership in 2022. The service will offer a selection of up to 1,000 grocery items for delivery seven days a week.

Just Eat already works with Asda, delivering pizzas and meal deals from the grocer’s cafe operation across 42 locations.

Amid the growing popularity of on-demand grocery deliveries, Asda has also been rolling out its own ‘Express Delivery’ service that lets shoppers choose from its full 30,000-strong online product range. The supermarket also recently extended its rapid delivery partnership with Uber Eats.

“We’re always looking for new ways to offer customers more choice and extend the number of delivery options available, to help them conveniently shop for their favourite Asda products,” said Simon Gregg, VP of Online Grocery at Asda.

“Through working with Just Eat we’re able to give customers in new locations the opportunity to select from a broad range of grocery items for speedy delivery to the doorstep. The trial will also see Asda become more accessible to a wider customer base through Just Eats’ significant presence in the on-demand food delivery space.”

Meanwhile, the Just Eat Takeaway.com group already works with nearly 10,000 grocery and convenience stores on its platforms globally, including partnerships with SPAR, Shell and 7-Eleven.

Andrew Kenny, Managing Director UK at Just Eat, commented: “Our tie-up with Asda means we can help people access everything from store cupboard essentials to fresh groceries in a matter of minutes. It’s a really exciting development and we look forward to working with Asda on what will be a popular addition for our consumers.”

NAM Implications:
  • Some synergies and mutual benefits resulting.
  • But above all a pointer for others…
  • …all making it crucial that suppliers and retailers factor these changes into their 2022 strategies.
