Sainsbury’s yesterday opened two new convenience stores as it continues to grow its Local format across the UK beyond the current 800+ sites.
The new stores are located in Berrylands Raeburn Avenue in southwest London and Allerton Road in Liverpool.

Each is around 2,500 sq. ft in size, and feature in-store bakeries, fruit and veg, food-to-go and ready meals, as well as specialist ranges and seasonal lines. Both stores also offer self-service Costa Coffee machines, and feature the option to checkout using Mobile Pay or SmartShop, Sainsbury’s scan, pay and go technology,
As part of the retailer’s sustainability Plan for Better, the new Locals will not rely on any fossil fuels for their heating, lighting, refrigeration and ventilation needs.
“I was very pleased that we were able to welcome not just one but two communities through the doors of new Sainsbury’s Locals this morning,” said Sainsbury’s property director, Patrick Dunne.
“Our new stores help us to bring more choice and flexibility to our customers and I’m looking forward to hearing their feedback about our two newest arrivals to the Sainsbury’s estate.”
