Lidl has taken aim at rival Aldi after it opened a new store in Galway, Ireland.
The new Aldi store in the Knocknacarra area is next door an existing Lidl outlet. After the opening, Lidl unveiled a cheeky sign reading ‘keep your friends close’ beside a photo of some binoculars.
Many social media users praised Lidl for its “trolling” of Aldi. One user on Twitter said: “Lidl are opening a new store in Galway. It’s next door to an Aldi. This sign is facing the Aldi store. Top trolling.”
Another said: “Brilliant marketing from the new Lidl Ireland in Knocknacarra, you’re up now Aldi Ireland.”
