Ireland The Second Most Expensive Euro Zone Country For Food And Alcohol

The Republic of Ireland is the second most expensive country in the euro zone for food and alcohol and the most expensive for tobacco, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The agency looked at how the price levels of food, beverages and tobacco here compared with other European countries in 2021. It found that food prices in Ireland were 17% above the EU27 average, making the State the second-most expensive jurisdiction in the euro zone for food behind Luxembourg, and the third most expensive in the EU27.
