Shopify and YouTube have joined forces to launch a new service, which allows users to buy products directly via the latter’s website as part of a live shopping experience.
The ‘YouTube Shopping’ channel offers multiple options for live shopping, allowing YouTube users to buy products from Shopify merchants while watching a video or even a live stream. The feature is now live across the world.
To be eligible for the feature, merchants need to have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers. They can tag products during a live stream or display a list of products available under their videos. They can also add a ‘Store’ tab to their YouTube channel.
All the product information will be synced with their catalogue on Shopify (including out-of-stick details).
Shopify noted: “Commerce today is multichannel, and YouTube is one of the most influential channels on the planet. Shopify’s new YouTube integration will fundamentally change what opportunity looks like for independent brands in the creator economy.”
NAM Implications:
- Another obvious gap in retrospect.
- Besides being another nail in the coffin of traditional media…
