Tesco Opens 2,000th Express Store

Tesco has opened its 2,000th Express store in the Lion Yard shopping centre in Cambridge. The milestone comes almost 20 years after the group’s convenience format was launched in 1994.

Tesco noted that 77% of the UK population now live within a 10-minute drive of an Express store.

“This is an exciting milestone for the business as we continue to expand our store network to give us unrivalled proximity to customers looking for an easy and convenient shopping experience,” said Kevin Tindall, Managing Director of Tesco Convenience.

“Our colleagues in Express do a brilliant job serving their local communities and our growing Express network makes it even easier for customers to find great value in more places.”

In recent years, Tesco has been converting some of its One Stop convenience stores into the Express format to offer communities a broader range of branded and own-label products, as well as more fresh food and food-to-go lines.
