Getir Expands Ultrafast Grocery Delivery Across Europe

Getir has announced the launch of what it calls “Europe’s biggest store network for ultrafast grocery delivery”, following its acquisition of rival Gorillas in December last year.

The company said the store network will serve customers in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and the US. It claimed the move was due to the fast and efficient integration process between the two companies.

Both the Getir and the Gorillas brands, as well as their respective apps, will continue to co-exist and operate. Customers in the UK will be able to order from both apps but will now benefit from a stronger and more efficient store network, as the order will tap into the entire combined courier fleet.  The first available courier (from either Getir or Gorillas) will deliver the order.

Getir also said its customers can now benefit from an improved and combined assortment of around 2,000 everyday products.

Turancan Salur, Regional GM of Getir, said: “Since the acquisition, we have had one clear goal in mind: Getir and Gorillas – stronger and better together. Today’s announcement exemplifies how leveraging the synergies of both organisations can lead to not just the biggest and most efficient store network for ultrafast grocery delivery, but also one that will significantly increase the product range and service quality for our customers.”

The combination of the store network of both companies is ongoing across the different markets where both brands operate and it is expected to be fully completed in a couple of months. Getir said the process may result in the closing of some stores.

NAM Implications:
  • Fast delivery is part of your future.
  • Wherever you sit…
  • Meanwhile, as the casualties mount…
  • (inability to manage high fulfilment costs)
  • …there will be constant consolidation.
  • …as the winners expand.
  • (i.e look for ways of joining the Getir bandwagon)
