After launching its new Express convenience format with two openings at the end of last year, Asda has revealed that its third outlet will open on 23 May.
Located in Calne, Wiltshire, the store will offer over 3,000 products, including a range of fresh, ambient and chilled groceries, as well as products from Asda’s Extra Special range, and a selection of beers, wines and spirits.
The rollout of Asda Express is part of the group’s long-term strategy to become the UK’s second-largest grocery retailer by establishing a significant presence in the convenience channel. A fourth store will open at Romford train station in June, with Asda hoping to have 30 Express stores operating by the end of this year and 300 sites by the end of 2026.
The Express stores are wholly owned and operated by Asda. They are separate from the Asda On the Move convenience sites, which are located on forecourts owned and operated by EG Group. The 150th Asda on The Move store opened in Bicester last month.
NAM Implications:
- If Asda fulfils its convenience ambitions…
- …suppliers that climb aboard now will have an easier journey.
- Worth a thought?
