Cafédirect Makes Acquisition To Expand In Out-Of-Home Coffee Market

Cafédirect has announced the acquisition of Bewley’s UK from its parent company Bewley’s Ireland.

The Cafédirect brand currently focuses on the at-home coffee market.

Bewley’s UK operates a full-service coffee Roastery in Meltham, Yorkshire and is a supplier to the out-of-home coffee market with its Grumpy Mule and Eros brands.

The two companies have been working together for over 15 years. Cafédirect has acquired the entire share capital of Bewley’s UK for an undisclosed sum.

The deal is expected to enable Cafédirect to provide a full range across the at-home and out-of-home markets. The Cafédirect, Grumpy Mule and Eros brands are aimed at universities, business & industry, hospitality, retail and wholesalers. The expanded company plans to expand its range of products for the at-home and out-of-home markets, building reach and volume.

John Steel, Cafédirect’s CEO, commented: “This acquisition is a once in a lifetime opportunity to expand our business and deliver our mission at scale. We are very excited and energised to work with Bewley’s UK’s highly talented and committed people in order to meet customers’ needs, build volume and grow our brand presence while increasing our impact.”

Jason Doyle, Bewley’s UK & Ireland MD, added: “We are delighted to be able to pass on Bewley’s UK to a long term, trusted partner, Cafédirect. We have every confidence that this transaction is in the best interest of all stakeholders. We look forward to this next chapter in Bewley’s and Cafédirect’s special relationship.”
