Poundland Opens Transactional Website Under Its Own Name

Poundland today re-launched its transactional website under its own name after completing the transition from Poundshop.com.

The discount retailer had previously been trialling its own online store but subsequently moved its e-commerce operation to Poundshop.com when it acquired the business in early 2022 to benefit from its established transactional facilities.

The revamped Poundland.co.uk site now has transaction capabilities, with the retailer hoping to benefit from the greater consumer recognition enjoyed by its brand.

The site offers around 3,000 items for home delivery, with prices the same as those found in Poundland’s high street stores, delivered for £1 on orders over £50.

The range includes food & drink, household cleaning, health & beauty, home, kids and pet items.

The retailer noted that the launch of Poundland.co.uk had been made possible by the digital migration of its Poundshop.com operation and the opening of a second digital fulfilment hub at its distribution centre in Darton, South Yorkshire.

Customer orders are now picked, packed and delivered from both its new South Yorkshire hub and its original Poundshop.com facilities in Wednesbury in the West Midlands.

Poundland stated that it intends to develop and expand the products and services on its new website over the coming months, making its growing in-store ranges available for home delivery.

“This is an important milestone in the development of our digital business” said Poundland director of digital Tom Hill.

“I’d like to thank the teams at Walsall, Wednesbury and Darton for their amazing efforts to open up Poundland.co.uk – a big milestone for our growing online business. These are exciting times in Poundland as we give our customers more ways to shop with us and offer them more value, wherever they are in the UK.”

NAM Implications:
  • Key will be covering fulfilment costs within a Poundland context.
  • Another knife-edge business model…
  • Fingers crossed…
