Waitrose Extends Logistics Agreement With GXO; Planning To Reduce Costs And Raise Efficiency

Waitrose has extended its agreement with contract logistics provider GXO.

As a result, GXO will continue to operate two distribution hubs located within Waitrose’s Milton Keynes campus. GXO dispatches close to 85 million cases per year at the 950,00 sq. ft. Magna Park national distribution centre, whilst the 320,000 sq. ft. foot Brinklow regional distribution centre handles around 51 million cases of chilled and fresh products annually.

As part of its renewed partnership with Waitrose, GXO plans to deploy technologies to help accelerate improvement efficiencies and service levels across the two sites.

Waitrose Head of Distribution Operations (Grocery) & Transport Doug Kay, said: “After a successful three years, GXO has become a trusted partner. We’re working together to implement the latest technology, to even further improve our supply chain – ultimately benefiting our branches and customers alike.”

Gavin Williams, Managing Director, UK and Ireland, at GXO, added: “We look forward to deploying our expertise in the grocery sector to help further reduce costs and raise efficiency and productivity for Waitrose.”

NAM Implications:
  • Part of Waitrose appeal has been its feel of ‘full & plenty’.
  • If this can be restored without being overstocked via logistics help, we shall all benefit.
  • And not least, the Waitrose bottom line…
