Asda Kicks Off Christmas Ads In Supermarket Sector

Asda has become the first of the main UK supermarkets to unveil its Christmas advertising campaign.

A 60-second teaser released today confirms recent speculation that the retailer has teamed up with singing star Michael Bublé for its festive marketing.

Asda’s full 90-second Christmas ad will air on 4 November.

David Hills, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “Today, we’re putting the speculation to rest and confirming that the legend that is Michael Bublé is partnering with us this Christmas to put on a showstopping performance. With Bublé’s undeniable ability to spread seasonal smiles and our commitment to quality, at great value, we’re a match made in heaven, proving Asda is a one-stop-shop for families seeking magic this Christmas.”

Other ads released today include those from M&S (Clothing & Home) and Argos:

NAM Implications:
  • The surprise is not that the mults are pulling out the Christmas advertising stops…
  • …but that Asda sees itself and Michael Buble as a match made in heaven.
  • i.e. they have aspirations that cannot/shouldn’t be ignored…
