In light of recent Pan-European Amazon negotiations, you may ask yourself:
Should I centralise part of my digital organisation?
And the answer is probably Yes.
But you don’t have to turn your business upside down because of it.
Instead, you need to understand three things:
- Which processes require local knowledge
- What tasks get duplicated across markets
- What political motives hinder centralisation
Once you’ve understood the above, you can craft the business case for selective centralisation.
For example, you may decide to centralise:
- Annual trade negotiations
- Dispute management
- Content production
- Financial audits
- Retail analytics
But keeping business-critical tasks local:
- Selection management
- Advertising campaigns
- Deal event management
- Cost support negotiations
- P/L ownership
We can like it or not. But Amazon’s centralisation efforts have a direct impact on the way we need to manage our business with the online retailer.
Ignoring Amazon’s push towards a pan-EU setup will only lead to one thing:
Higher costs to manage the Amazon account for your brand.
