Aldi has again been named as the most popular supermarket in the UK, ranking ahead of its traditional Big Four rivals, as well as M&S and fellow discounter Lidl.
The poll by YouGov is based on the percentage of people who have a positive opinion of a supermarket chain. In the third quarter, Aldi’s popularity score of 81% beat Tesco (79%), Sainsbury’s (79%) and Asda (78%), with Lidl (73%) down in sixth.
Despite outperforming the sector in recent months, M&S Food was ranked fifth with a score of 74%.
Earlier this week, Aldi was named by consumer watchdog Which? as the UK’s Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 2023, having also won the accolade in 2022 and 2021.
“Aldi continues to offer great quality products at unbeatable prices, which is why we believe British shoppers have voted us the nation’s favourite supermarket yet again,” said Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi.
