Aldi Secures Welsh Language Certification

Aldi has achieved Cynnig Cymraeg certification from the Welsh Language Commissioner.

The discounter has been recognised for its commitment to introducing the Welsh language in all of its stores in Wales.

The Cynnig Cymraeg Welsh offer is the official recognition of the Welsh Language Commissioner and is given to businesses that have supported the Commissioner’s long-term plan to ensure people can use the Welsh language in all aspects of their lives across Wales.

Aldi has invested in the inclusion of the Welsh language in several ways in over 50 stores in Wales, including bilingual self-checkout announcements and displays, store signage in Welsh and English, Welsh-speaking store staff, marketing materials printed in both Welsh and English, and own brand Welsh products having bilingual packaging.

Dan Oakenfull, Regional Managing Director at Aldi, said: “It is important to Aldi to be a part of the local community and to be an inclusive retailer for all customers across the UK. We are passionate about the communities in which we operate, and we want to champion things that matter most to our customers.

“This includes looking for ways to incorporate the Welsh language in these stores to uphold the heritage of communities as well as support the values that both our colleagues and customers hold.”
