Aldi Reveals Upcoming Store Openings

Aldi has confirmed that it is set to open 35 new stores across the UK this year, with it today revealing the locations of the next six.

The discounter, which opened its 1,000th UK store last year, will unveil new outlets in Portway (Preston) and Meteor Retail Park (Derby) later this month. Meanwhile, sites in Castle Gresley (Derbyshire), Swinfen Vale (Bardon), High Wycombe (Buckinghamshire), and Stoke Gifford (Bristol) will follow in the coming months.

The openings form part of Aldi’s long-term target of 1,500 stores in the UK, with it investing £550m this year in expanding its footprint.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “After attracting more new customers than any other supermarket in the last 12 months (Kantar, 52 weeks to 17/03/2024), we’re more determined than ever to expand our presence across the country.“We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, and shoppers know they’ll always get more for their money when shopping at Aldi.”

Data released by Kantar yesterday showed that Aldi’s sales growth had slowed to 3.1% (from 5.7%) over the 12 weeks to 17 March, with its market share edging down 0.1 percentage points.
