After Lidl announced yesterday that it plans to open hundreds of additional outlets across the UK, key rival Aldi has launched a nationwide initiative to pinpoint locations for new stores.
The discounter is calling on the public to help identify where new Aldi stores are needed the most. The areas that have the most suggestions will then be considered as part of its expansion plans.
Aldi currently has more than 1,000 stores with a long-term target of over 1,500 sites across the UK.
“We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, but there are still some areas that either don’t have an Aldi or have potential for more stores,” said Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate.
“We’ve identified some key places where there is demand for more stores already, but now we are calling on the public to share their views. This will be used to help inform our property search over the coming years.”
Aldi is asking for store site suggestions to be submitted by email ([email protected]) by 31 May, based on its site requirements.
