After analysing the results of our annual vendor survey, it’s clear that there’s no direct correlation between negotiation length and negotiation outcome.
Amazon won’t close negotiations just because they’re running out of time.
But interestingly, vendors that were able to reduce trade investments found success in two ways:
- They focused on speed of execution, involving internal and external stakeholders early in the process.
- They didn’t allow longer negotiation cycles to distract them from their goal of improving margins.
So, if you’re thinking of reducing trade terms, it’s critical to thoroughly prepare your business case and involve your leadership early on.
